Rise of atheism

Youtube allowed a lot of dumb morons to get together. A few of these morons were atheists. They got together and pointed some links on the internet which showed a university study about people and their religion. Apparently, atheism is on the rise in today's world. Here is the video that sparked this thought.

I paused to think about this particular video and realized that "religion was just an invention to keep men in check". Today the courts and the laws are able to take care of that. So do we will need a religion? Can we not evolve to a stage where morality will be checked by the nature of man rather than putting the fear of the unknown into him?
